3D Printing Composite Materials Guide
Introduction to Composites
Composite materials for 3D printing combine a base polymer with reinforcing fibers. The result is dramatically improved strength and stiffness.
Carbon Fiber Reinforced
Offers the highest stiffness-to-weight ratio. CFR-PLA and CFR-Nylon are common. Parts are 2-3x stiffer than unreinforced equivalents.
Glass Fiber Reinforced
More cost-effective than carbon fiber with good strength improvement. Widely used in Nylon and Polypropylene grades.
Summary: Composite 3D printing materials dramatically expand the mechanical capabilities of additive manufacturing.
